We are waking up to another win by an Annite Chess player as Adithya Ganehiarachchi emerged as the Champion in the 2023 Sri Lanka Novices Division Chess Championship - Kurunegala District.

Grade 9 student Adithya outplayed 143 contestants in the competition organized by Knights Flame Chess Club on behalf of the Chess Federation of Sri Lanka which was held at D. S. Senanayake Central College, Uhumeeya.
He is undefeated in the entire tournament with 6 points from a maximum of 7 with 4 wins and 2 draws and he got an impressive performance rating of 1309.

This competition is one of 16 Divisional Championships that were held in parallel this month as the preliminary stages of the Sri Lanka Chess Federation National Cycle.

It's already a good start to this year's Annites Chess Calendar, as not too long ago we were able to report that St. Anne's College Chess Teams bagged 3 wins in the Provincial Team Chess Championship.

During the 2022 SLSCA North Western Province Team Chess Championship, our Under 09 and 11 teams end up taking Second Runner-up places while the Under 15 team finishes as First Runner-up.
The tournament was organized by the Sri Lanka Schools' Chess Association and was held on the 7th and 8th of January at Central College, Kuliyapitiya.
These victories came with the Under 09 Team earning 17 Game Points and the Under 11 and 15 Teams earning 20.5 Points each. With these gains, the teams selected for Division A.
Our players have picked up where they left off last year and we hope they will carry on the winning spirit throughout the year.

Annites are on a roll! Junior Annite Methoopa Dewnith will represent Sri Lanka at the 2022 Commonwealth Chess Championship.

Methoopa will play in the Under 10 Open category. Players from 8 Commonwealth nations are taking part in this tournament organized by the Chess Federation of Sri Lanka and will be held at the Citrus Waskaduwa Hotel, Kalutara.

What a big moment for little Methoopa! This came after we heard the other good news of our Pruthivi qualifying for the 6th South Asian Karate Championship, making this a jubilant coincidence for all Annites.

You won for the College. Now is the time to win for the country. We are all rooting for you.

Go Methoopa!
